Altin Gun, Intersect, and Vagabon

Unless indicated, I took all the pics posted on this blog. Feel free to repost – just remember to give credit. Cheers!

Altin Gun at Fingerprints Music

For the second time this year, I caught a live set from Altin Gun before they headed off to the Desert Daze music festival. Their brand of Turkish psychedelic folk music benefits from their live performance, where the audience is instantly drawn in. What a mesmerizing energy they have. I also had the chance to meet them after, where they graciously posed for the pic below. I told them that I’d seen them at Outside Lands, where they first caught my ear on a smaller stage as I walked by (see pics below). They were very friendly to us fans that were waiting in line to get our albums signed. They’re touring currently, with most of their remaining dates this year in Europe. At the least, give their latest album a listen below.

Here’s their latest album. Get it on vinyl if you want to see bands them like actually get paid.

New Music Currently Spinning…

LAHS – Allah-Las // The Allah-Las return, with a different vibe on their latest offering, going deeper than their previous retro sounds.

Jekyll & Hide – Bishop Briggs // This is the new single from one of my favorite singers, Bishop Briggs. The song is a glimpse into her upcoming album, out later this year.

Vagabon – Vagabon // I caught Vagabon live a few years back at the now gone Music Tastes Good (Long Beach). This release out today sounds fantastic. What a unique voice.

Other Music Stuff…

Electric Guest at Fingerprints Music – For the third week in a row, my favorite local record store is killing it with live shows. As though having Starcrawler and Altin Gun was not enough, tonight they’re bringing in Electric Guest. I first caught their act a couple summers ago at Outside Lands. They were packed then, so be sure to get to this one early. A simple phone call to get on the list will suffice: Fingerprints Music @ 562.433.4996

Intersect Festival – The full lineup for the inaugural festival in Las Vegas was released on Wednesday, and I’m sold. This is a fantastic lineup. To make the deal sweeter, the 2-day GA passes are only $99, if you enter the passcode “BEAUTIFUL” before you make your purchase. By doing this, your ticket purchase goes to charity. I bought my ticket, even knowing that the KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas will probably be the same weekend. So yes, it is possible that I fly out to Vegas for one or both of these days, and come back to catch at least one day of KROQ’s annual show. Waiting on you, KROQ, for that lineup. I’ve added a playlist below the poster.

One sidenote of concern: That ‘AWS’ on the poster means that Intersect is put on by Amazon. In a recent series of tweets, The Black Madonna (one of my favorite live DJ’s) indicated that she did not know that this event was being put on by Amazon. This is causing speculation that others artists may not have known. Hopefully this doesn’t mean a bunch of cancellations. Here’s the link to her Twitter: https://twitter.com/blackmadonnachi

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announcement – Also this week, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced their nominees for entry. This year’s list includes: 1) Pat Benatar, 2) Dave Matthews Band, 3) Depeche Mode, 4) The Doobie Brothers, 5) Whitney Houston, 6) Judas Priest, 7) Kraftwerk, 8) MC5, 9) Motorhead, 10) Nine Inch Nails, 11) The Notorious B.I.G., 12) Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, 13) Todd Rundgren, 14) Soundgarden, 15) T. Rex, and 16) Thin Lizzy

The rock & roll organization that somehow managed to let in Donna Summer, Miles Davis, and N.W.A., has overlooked rock heavyweights like Judas Priest and Motorhead. That’s where my votes went. Love Dave Matthews Band, but some of these names should have been in there a long time ago. Here’s the link if you want to cast your vote: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame daily voting

Mikal Cronin at Fingerprints Music – One last show to highlight: Mikal Cronin will be doing a set at Fingerprints next Wednesday Oct 23 @ 7pm. I can’t make this one, but it should be fun. Hit up the number above to reserve a spot.

Here’s my ongoing playlist, updated weekly with both new and old tracks I’m listening to.
