Keuning/The Jacks/Sweet Nobody at The Wayfarer
Last Thursday (11/14), I went to the Wayfarer in Costa Mesa for the first time this year, with my friend Tushita. The headliner was Dave Keuning, who is better known as the lead guitarist of the Killers. Keuning is officially still in the band, but at the moment, is not touring with them. His set consisted of cuts from his recent solo endeavor, at times conjuring up that Killers vibe fans are accustomed to hearing. Honestly, I enjoyed the set from his opener, The Jacks, more. Being a fairly regular act at the Wayfarer, it’s somewhat surprising that I’ve never seen them. They flat out rocked the stage, with the largest audience of the night. This was on their eve of their tour, so catch them if you get a chance. Lastly (and certainly not least), the first opener was Sweet Nobody, a Burger Records act I’ve never seen. And they’re from my city, Long Beach! First listen, they reminded me a bit of Alvvays, but they’ve got their own vibe. Catch one of their sets if you ever get the chance. Pics are below.

New Music Spinning…
Everyday Life – Coldplay // I’m currently sitting at an airport, giving this a listen as the sun rises, which somehow feels appropriate. The double album is all over the place, bouncing all over the globe for inspiration. At times, they sound like the Coldplay that earned them legions of fans, and at times they’re taking chances of setting that bridge on fire. And in a sign of the times, this is the most explicitly political I’ve heard the band get (and Chris Martin even curses in a song). This will take a few listens.
In other Coldplay news, the band has indicated that they will not be touring for this album, although there is still speculation that they might do a festival here and there. Their reason? The carbon footprint that touring leaves is massive, and they’re looking to reduce that. It certainly helps that they’re already very well established; most bands don’t have that luxury, as a good deal of income is generated from touring and merchandise. Here’s an article for more info: Coldplay to pause touring…
Hyperspace – Beck // This album immediately gave me a N.E.R.D. feeling, and with good reason; he collaborated with Pharrell Williams on it, and it shows.
Wedding Cake – Mae Deline // The newest cut from Mae Deline, after her single release show last night at The Resident. Give her a follow on Instagram! Mae Deline Instagram

Shaky Knees Lineup – The lineup for the Shaky Knees lineup in Atlanta, the weekend before my birthday, was released on Wednesday. With three rock headliners (The Black Keys, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Strokes), the festival sticks to its rock/indie/folk roots, avoiding hip hop and electronic. Additionally, for better or worse, this rules a lot of the lineup out from Coachella. Other acts include the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Portugal. The Man, Joan Jett, Of Monsters and Men, Brittany Howard, Royal Blood, Phoebe Bridgers, and many others. And how much? At the time of the lineup release, 3-day GA was $195, before fees. Such a great deal.
Here’s my ongoing playlist, updated weekly with both new and old tracks I’m listening to.
