- Coachella Lineup is out!
After endless anxiety on the Reddit Coachella sub, the lineup was finally released on Tuesday afternoon. There was a hint earlier in the day of No Doubt playing the festival. After all was said and speculated, the headliners remained the same: Lana Del Rey, Tyler, The Creator, and Doja Cat. I guessed thirty of the artists that ended up on the lineup (see my mock below), but I wish I’d been right about more of them. There’s plenty for me to enjoy at this festival, but it feels underwhelming compared to last year. I’ll be going through the artists on here leading into the festival, with more emphasis placed on the smaller/mid level artists. Here are some immediate things that stand out to me:
- While not technically one of the headliners, I’ve seen more media focus on No Doubt reuniting. The Coachella app has them scheduled to play on Sunday, which probably means they’ll play after Doja Cat headlines.
- Sublime is also billed (without Rome), which means they’ll be performing with Jakob Nowell, son of original frontman Bradley.
- Since the festival started in 1999, this is the first time Deftones have played Coachella. Read that again.
- Blur is returning to the Desert after their headlining set in 2013 (with The Stone Roses). Last year, there were three previous headliners playing: Gorillaz, Bjork, and Calvin Harris, in addition to the main headliners.
- Dude, the legendary Adicts are playing on Saturday. They’ll definitely play in the Sonora tent, where all the cool indie/punk bands play.
- Of all the artists I’m genuinely bummed and surprised at for not being on here, The Smile is at the top. They have a new album coming out, and at least one of the new cuts (“Bending Hectic”) puts me in the Radiohead zone. Thom Yorke was originally booked in 2020, before the world stopped. It’s a shame he hasn’t been booked back. Radiohead last played in 2017, and probably won’t tour again without new music.

- Sault finally performed live in 2023
One of my favorite acts in 2020 was the mysterious group Sault. The UK group is known as much for their mystery and aversion to playing live, as much as the brilliant music they put out. This all changed in December last year, where the collective performed live in the UK. While some fans initially complained about ticket prices (close to 100 pounds), fans soon changed their tune. Apparently the live set involved multiple sets. Here are some clips below, via social media, including a full review of the set from Tina Edwards.
- Field Trip fest lineup is out (San Juan Capistrano)
If you’re in Orange County in late March, and you also enjoy beer, this is a relatively small event for you to check out. I haven’t been yet, but I do like some of the artists on here and good beer, so this may be the year. It’s being headlined by Donavon Frankenreiter and Nikki Lane. Tickets are available here.
- Ty Segall has new music (and shows)
Indie-rocker extraordinaire Ty Segall has a new album out next Friday, and a record store appearance in Long Beach on Wednesday 1/24. At the time of this blog, there is still room for his acoustic set at Fingerprints Music; there’s a link on their Instagram. Buying the album on vinyl or CD gets you into the show. Here’s a video of a cut from the new album:
- Khruangbin also has new music coming out.
I last saw Khruangbin live in Barcelona’s 2022 edition of Primavera, with the sun setting. They laid low last year, and I guessed (correctly) that they would be on the Coachella lineup. While releasing some collaborative work over the last few years (most famously with Leon Bridges), the trio is set to release their latest album on 4/5, titled “A LA SALA.” This will give Coachella attendees a week to listen, before they play Weekend 1.
The Tasting Room

Tasting Room will return next week with a new artist. In the meantime, here’s my 2024 playlist, revised every week.
The Lounge Playlist
This is the ongoing soundtrack for the lounge.
