  1. Coachella adds extra stage, extra acts.

This week, Coachella added a new stage, Quasar, which will be solely devoted to a handful of electronic acts. According to the Coachella Insta, “Quasar is not a tent and therefore not a desert.” Arguably the high point for Weekend 1 is Jamie xx – Floating Points – Daphni (the dj moniker for Caribou artist Dan Snaith). I’ll be closing out my Sunday evening there. Weekend 2 has some big names, with Rüfüs du Sol doing a dj set, along with big names the next two days. This stage is supposed to replace the Sahara stage, which is getting moved and upgraded. I’m interested in seeing how this plays out.

  1. Lollapalooza lineup is out this week

And it’s pretty stacked. A couple of initial thoughts: 1) Kesha is four lines into the undercard – that’s wild. 2) There are a lot of good acts in said undercard 3) Tyler is headlining both Coachella and Lolla now. 4) Melanie Martinez is in big print – good for her! Saw her at Outside Lands in 2021 (pic below). 5) Headliners as a whole still look to be recycled across the country, but the lineup as a whole offers a lot worth checking out. The festival is August 1-4 (four days) in Chicago.

  1. Neil and Joni are back on Spotify

After a nearly two year absence from the streaming platform, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell have both reposted much of their catalog back on to Spotify. The pulling of their music was due in large part to Young’s criticism of the platform hosting Joe Rogan’s podcast. Even though I own albums from both of them, it is nice to have them back online to stream.

  1. Couple of live events coming up in the So Cal area

While there are always live acts in So Cal, these are a few worth mentioning (or reminding you of):

These tix are almost sold out, and rain is expected that day, but this should still be fun.
Sierra Ferrell also has a new album out today. Give it a listen!
  1. New album from Waxahatchee, Tigers Blood, is out today.

Already receiving critical acclaim for the album Waxahatchee’s newest set of Indie-country cuts is worth spinning on this hazy Friday. Also, give this recent interview with Rolling Stone a read.

Extra Pour

Metro Boomin and Future have put out their newest album, but it’s Kendrick Lamar’s part in “Like That” that’s getting most of the attention. Give it a listen when you get a chance.

Vintage Pour

Today’s throwback is the song “Windowlicker,” by Aphex Twin. Today is the 25th anniversary of its release, and to celebrate, here’s the video for the song. The stuff of nightmares. Cheers.
