About three weeks ago, I sat down with a glass of red wine, to write a review of the debut album from ambient artist Stormchaser, and her debut album. The next day, I woke up sick, and have battling it on and off the last couple of weeks. Now, I finally get to post that wine-drenched review. Give it a read, and check out her album. There’s a link below.
Recently, I gave a listen to the debut album out from Stormchaser, simply titled “Please Stop Talking.” Right from the beginning, the listener is drawn into her rendering of her own take on the words “Kyrie Elision.” Driven by her floating voice, and her ever-present piano, Stormchaser ventures off into some ambient territory, where I’m perfectly comfortable residing. More than, anything, I love the tracks that move along a trip hop beat, sometimes reminding me of Bonobo ( “Shadow Thoughts”), while also conjuring emotional moments not dissimilar to Radiohead. My favorite cuts are “Autumn,” and “Alive,” again for similar reasons. The mood resonating from her piano is paired nicely with the beats, while her voice layers the tracks like velvet. She contrasts these tracks with great piano pieces like “Listen Pt. 1,” that rely solely on the instrument for mood. This is followed my the sequel track, “Listen Pt. 2,” which returns you back to the ambient beat and feel of the previous tracks. It’s like Aphex Twin put a soaring voice over his ‘Ambient Works.’ I’m digging it, and you should too. Cheers.
PS: “Imagine” is dope!
